Love At First Sight (in a thrift store)

Do you believe in love at first sight?  If you were to ask me that question I would say no.  Love comes from experiences, memories, years. But if you asked me if I believed in love at first sight IN A THRIFT STORE I would unequivocally, without any hesitation say "Absolutely."

You know that feeling right?

The moment when your eyes scan shelf upon shelf of knick-knacks and bric-a-brac (that word is about as cool as saying "dungarees") and there It is. IT is looking at you too. IT wants you as badly as you want it.

Your heart beats quicker.
Your palms start to sweat.
The hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

You look left. There's a woman down at the other end of the aisle. She is looking at you. Is it because she thinks you are a crazy staring stalker or does she want IT too?  Another day, loser!

You look right. There's no one there. Wait. Is that?  Yes, it's a Grandma type. Safe since she probably has one just like IT at home. Whew.

You tuck IT into your arm or cart and carry it like a Faberge egg even though it is only going to cost you $1.95.  At the same time, you run like hell to the cash register because NO ONE IS GETTING IT.

I had that moment last week. I had been cruising around, looking at this and that, not really intending on buying anything. But then I saw IT. I wasn't sure what IT was but I knew IT was coming home with me and it did.

I texted a picture of IT to my sister who is a milk glass aficionado, asking her for what purpose did she think it was intended. She batted around soap dish, I came back with relish dish, and in the end we weren't sure. I called mom who always knows what spoon to use when. She decided it was a cracker dish. After a lengthy discussion, we couldn't agree on what this oddly shaped dish is supposed to be used for.

I intend on using IT to hold peonies in spring and hydrangeas in summer.

But what do you think IT is? I'd love to know you thoughts on IT. And no, you can't have IT.

Cheers!
Jenny

  1. I'm still going with fruit bowl. Too big for a cracker holder. It would look lovely with lots of fresh fruit all mixed up in it. Yum!

  2. Bread basket? A spread of bagels, muffins, and breads would serve nicely in your new dish.

  4. I have had that same luck finding just the right thing at our local thrift store. You just can't beat finding the perfect thing even if you weren't looking for anything. The best part is when it costs you less than $2! I have no idea what it is either but I think your plan for it is great!

  5. I think it is a planter. I have similar ones that came with flower arrangements from florist shops. Pretty!
